Commisioners For Christ Ministry
Peniel Prayer & Retreat Center
Peniel Prayer and Retreat Center – Makuyu
In the course of this ministry, it became important to establish a center where the Ministry’s events of camps and conferences could be undertaken at the timetable and convenience of the ministry for enhanced effectiveness.
The journey to establish this center started in 2011 on a four-acre Piece of land in Makuyu area in Murang’a County. It started as a place for prayers, retreats, and team-building activities as it grows to handle large camps and conferences for students. It has since become a perfect place for that serene moment of prayer and getaway to reflect and retreat for individuals, church groups, and fellowships. This has inspired the naming of the center as “Peniel” meaning “face of God”, similar to the place Jacob wrestled with God until daybreak and God blessed him, changing his name to Israel. Some of the facilities available at the center include a playground, a toilet block, a kitchen area, a multipurpose hall, a tented camp accommodation, and a fireplace, with more being developed with time.
This center is served by four tarmac access roads that meet at the Thaara River Bridge near Kamahuha town. It is a one-hour drive from Nairobi either through Makuyu Center, Saba Saba Town or Mbombo on Murang’a Road. It sits alongside the beautiful valley of Thaara River starting at the bridge down the rocky valley with an indigenous forest and bushes growing through huge rock outcrops with caves and rapids and water pods. You can enjoy a wonderful nature walk along this valley as you enjoy the serenity and the sounds of flora and fauna and flowing water. You may even pause to catch a fish or to see a plant that collapses on touch and spend time praying on a rock.
